Sun create two types of energy. -Light and heat.Plants use theese energy for Photosynthesis. We can convert these energy to Electric energy.

Solar energy meanse Converting Sunlight energy to Electrical energy.Photovoltaic cells are used to  convert sunlight into electricity.

Usage of solar energy

Different types of solar panels

Solar panels are devices that convert light into electricity. either directly using photo voltaics (PV), or indirectly using concentrated solar power (CSP).

Photo voltaics (PV) convert light into electric current using the photoelectric effect.

Concentrated  solar power systems (CSP) use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam.

How much electricity will get from a solar panel

The amount of electricity a solar panel produces is  depends on three factors:

solar cell efficiency, solar panel size and the amount of sunlight directly hitting the panel.

Each solar panel should have a number listed on the back identifying how much power will be made during peak conditions, also known as a max power rating. All solar panels are rated by the DC power produced in standard test conditions. A typical solar panel produces about 200 watts of electricity based on the efficiency and size of what’s installed. For example, if you have 25 panels installed, you may have an output of about 5 kilowatts (kW).

Size of solar panels

Length and Width –    The most typical size used for residential installations is 65 inches(162.5 cm)  by 39 inches,(1 m) while the common size for commercial applications is 77 (192.5 cm) inches by 39 inches. it may have slight variation.

Advantages of Solar Power

  • Solar energy is renewable energy.
  • Solar energy can be produced free of charge and no fuel is required, and need   only one time investment.
  • Solar energy will last forever . Experts  says that  the world’s oil reserves will last for 35 yers
  • One of the most pollution less energy is Solar energy.
  • Solar cells make absolutely no noise at all. Other kind energy generation produce huge noice.
  • Maintenence cost for solar energy is very little. There are no moving parts in a solar cell which makes it impossible to really damage them.
  • In the long term, there can be a high return on investment due to the amount of free energy a solar panel can produce, it is estimated that the average household will see 50% of their energy coming in from solar panels.

Disadvantages of Solar Power

  • Initial investment for solar energy is very high. Many years required to compensate investment want to become benficiary
  • Electricity generation depends entirely on a countries exposure to sunlight; this could be limited by a countries climate.
  • Solar power stations  size is very high.Do not match the power output of similar sized conventional power stations.they can also be very expensive to build.
  • Solar power want batteries , to charge batteries so that solar powered devices can be used at night.
  • The batteries can often be large and heavy, taking up space and needing to be replaced from time to time.

Cost of Solar panel in india

The cost of grid-connected PV systems range from Rs 50,000 to 75,000 per kWp and the cost varies according to the inverter and type of panel chosen.

Description Cost
Cost of 1 kW rooftop solar system 1,00,000
Subsidy @ 30% 30,000
Cost after subsidy 70,000
Accelerated Depreciation @ 80% 56,000
