Reverse osmosis (RO) is water treatment system in which almost all water impurities are removed through reverse osmosis membrane. Reverse osmosis systems work by using pressure to force water through a semi-permeable membrane of pore size 0.0001 microns, which is 620,000 times finer than a human hair, 10,000 smaller than a red blood cell, 2,500 times smaller than bacteria and 20 to 500 times smaller than any virus. The RO is suitable for almost all areas where water impurities are reported. RO can reduce the physical impurities, biological impurities, dissolved salts, pesticides, chemical impurities and heavy metals.

Sand Filters are used world over for water treatment. These filters are used in various industries for cleaning water. In sewage units, sand filters are used as a final polishing stage. In sand filters the residual suspended materials and bacteria are trapped by the sand. The sand filter also provides physical matrix for bacterial decomposition of nitrogenous material like ammonia and nitrates, into nitrogen gas. Carbon filters can remove most of the organic compounds, which cause aesthetic problems (taste and odor). The longer the filter remains in contact with water, the more effective it will be in removing the foreign matter. Some of the typical examples of carbon filters include faucet mounted, in line, line bypass, point of entry, pour through, and specialty filters. Faucet mounted filters are connected to the faucet directly. In line filters are placed under the sink on the supply line of cold water; it means that hot water is not filtered. Line bypass models are based on a separate faucet at the sink that supplies only filtered water. Water from the existing fixtures will stay on untreated. Point of entry (POE) systems feature a filter, which treats all water entering the home. Clarifiers are used for the purpose of clarification of wastewater. Clarification is the widely accepted and the oldest used method in the effective treatment of water and wastewater. This operation includes removal of sediment, floating material and turbidity from raw wastewater. Water clarification process is not the one process but the combination of different processes. Large suspended solids get settle down by gravity. For non-settleable material removal is done through coagulation, sedimentation and flocculation. All these three processes are collectively called conventional clarification or the water clarification.
